Innovation Unleashed: Oliver Hunt’s Vision for Elexon Electronics’ R&D Leadership
/in Uncategorized /by Sandra SimpsonMeet Oliver Hunt, the Engineering Lead at Elexon Electronics. Oliver personifies the spirit of Elexon Electronics as an inventive design house, bringing a unique perspective to our Engineering department. Oliver is originally Australian but spend his life in the UK where his family comes from. Almost two years ago, he chose the Australian lifestyle to raise his family and relocated from the UK to Brisbane.
Initially attracted to Elexon for our success in the mining and geotechnical industry, Oliver found his niche at Elexon Electronics impressed by the global impact of the entire design process from prototyping to manufacturing.
Engineering and New Product Introduction
In his daily role at Elexon Electronics, Oliver focuses on transforming product ideas into production-ready forms. He manages the integration of all necessary files into our ERP system, providing crucial assembly instructions for accurate production setup. Additionally, he conducts engineering checks on external clients, ensuring the absence of significant errors.
UK Defence experience
Oliver’s extensive global perspective on manufacturing and design stems from his 14 years in the UK, deeply connected to the Defence industry. Working on projects with major Defence Primes like L3 Harris and BAE systems, he handled tasks ranging from radio maintenance to electrical testing on Defence vehicles. Eager to explore opportunities within the Defence space at Elexon, Oliver aims to leverage the company’s IP for more effective wireless solutions for the Australian Defence Force.
Passion for R&D
One of Oliver’s major passions lies in the research and development of new products. He thrives on designing innovative concepts, a skill gained during his time at the UK Defence, where he used to develop working prototypes within short turnarounds for review by the technical team. This ethos aligns perfectly with Elexon Electronics’ founding principles, and having someone of Oliver’s calibre steering the company mindset is invaluable.
Believing in knowledge transfer and team expansion, Oliver shares Elexon’s core values. The company has heavily invested in engineering and R&D in recent years, and now, with Oliver on the team, we anticipate exciting developments and fresh ideas that will shape our future design projects.
Introducing: Rajani Shrestha, Elexon Electronics’ new Manufacturing Engineer
/in News & Updates /by Sandra SimpsonElexon Electronics is thrilled to introduce Rajani Shrestha, our latest addition to the engineering team! From Nepal, Rajani has pursued her passion for electronics from an early age, inspired by her father’s guidance. With an impressive educational background that includes both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Engineering and seven years of experience in manufacturing, Rajani is exceptionally well-prepared for her new role with us.
A Journey Through Manufacturing
Rajani embarked on her career in the manufacturing sector in 2012, focusing on efficient manufacturing practices and quality management systems. She gained invaluable experience in a few well-respected contract manufacturers such as GPC Electronics, where she played a crucial role in Surface Mount Technology (SMT), ensuring the highest quality from the initial stages of product development to delivery.
Elexon 2.0 – Electronics Production Innovation
Now at Elexon Electronics, Rajani is excited about the innovative technologies we’re incorporating into our production processes. “Introducing the jet printer and SPI machine at Elexon represents a significant leap forward,” says Rajani. “The SPI (Solder Paste Inspection system) is particularly transformative, enabling us to detect issues early and refine our processes right from the start.”
Rajani is also enthusiastic about our recent acquisitions, including the 3D Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) system and the 3D CT X-ray machine. “These tools enhance our ability to deliver precision and quality in ways we’ve never achieved before,” she adds. “The 3D AOI system, with its detailed inspection capabilities, is crucial for maintaining the high-quality standards our customers expect.”
These technological upgrades are expected to bring about substantial improvements in Elexon’s efficiency and product quality. “With the new pick-and-place machine and the 3D AOI system, we’re looking at a significantly more efficient product development cycle, reducing bottlenecks and improving our output,” Rajani notes.
Strategic Improvements
Upon joining, Rajani identified immediate areas for improvement and has begun implementing strategies to address them. “Creating clear guidelines for our operators has been a priority to reduce downtime and improve productivity,” she explains.
In her role, Rajani aims to foster collaboration and make the most of the new technologies to elevate our product quality. “Integrating our expertise with these advanced tools opens up incredible opportunities. I’m excited to contribute to a team that’s pushing the boundaries of electronic manufacturing.”
Rajani’s Inspirations
When asked about her personal superheroes, Rajani doesn’t hesitate to name her father as her greatest inspiration. “My father is my superhero,” she declares. “He taught me the value of education, guided me with my career choice and always supported me.
Looking Forward
As Rajani looks to the future with Elexon Electronics 2.0, she is motivated by the impact these technological advancements can have.
” I’m excited about the journey ahead and the positive changes we can bring with the products we bring to life here at Elexon.”
Rajani’s arrival at Elexon Electronics and the introduction of our new cutting-edge manufacturing technologies signify an exciting new chapter in our pursuit for excellence.
Welcome to the team, Rajani! We’re excited to see where we go with your expertise and these game-changing technologies.
Introducing Iain Martin-Blakey, our new Work Health and Safety Advisor
/in Uncategorized /by Sandra SimpsonElexon Electronics have brought in Iain Martin-Blakey as our new Work Health and Safety Advisor. This newly created role is one of various initiatives Elexon are taking in 2024 to continue to grow and foster a positive and efficient workplace culture. Iain has an extensive history of working within organisational WHS and HR management, and as his career has progressed has transitioned into more advisory roles, imparting his experiences through developing programs to address specialist organisational skills in safety and HR. Iain’s expertise in legal reporting, policy revision and implementing WHS processes and procedures greatly improve overall organisation standards in these areas.
Manufacturing Specific WHS Practices
The recent move to a new facility has given us an opportunity to build upon previous WHS procedures and enhance the standard across the board. “Safety and manufacturing are inseparable topics” Iain said. For a premises that features both offices and manufacturing facilities, safety needs to be embedded in every aspect of our work. He will ensure we remain up to date with current legislation and compliance codes that cover all areas of the company from the facility itself, to noise safety, confined spaces, managing exposure to dangerous substances, waste removal and others.
In manufacturing, apart from creating WHS policies, it’s crucial to empower machine operators to prioritize their own . This involves fostering a culture where employees confidently refuse unsafe tasks, halt operations in risky situations, and freely seek help or ask questions. Transparent communication between management and team members is essential for ensuring a safe workplace.
The Link Between Safety and Well-being
This feeds into one of Iain’s main objectives for 2024, improving the well-being of staff members, as he believes well-being and safety are closely linked. The more your team feels as though they are a part of a safe environment that welcomes employee consultation and input, the more cohesive, engaged and proactive they are, resulting in better performance, contribution, and longevity of employment. Through the monthly Safety Committee Meetings, there will be a dedicated conversation to addressing mental health initiatives like Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea in March and R U OK day in October. Being innovative and going beyond traditional safety measures is key to creating a positive and supportive workplace environment. Along with the Safety Committee Meetings, Iain will be pushing for further internal training, so that Elexon staff feel confident in their roles and capable of handling unforeseen circumstances for effectively.
Psychosocial Health and Safety in the Workplace
With the Federal Government now requiring organisations to deliver higher standards of protection for their people than ever before, we are excited to have Iain join our team. As Iain perfectly stated, “it is important to realise that safety is a journey and not a destination” and we know that bringing Iain on to oversee our WHS is the first step in that direction.
With any suggestions related to Elexon Electronics’ WHS, please contact Iain at iain.martin-blakey@elexongroup.com
